National Merit Scholarship
Commended Students Honored
Canton High School is pleased to announce that seven (7) CHS seniors have been named Commended Students in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program. Commended Students placed in the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2016 program by taking the 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
The following seniors received this recognition this month and will be honored at the CHS Scholastic Honors Night in May: Rigel Galgana, Isabel Johnson, Brendan Mullaley, Ngoc-Tran Nguyen, Lucas Phan, Courtland Priest and Catherine Song.
These CHS students exemplify our values of academic excellence and continuous improvement. They earned this distinction by working extremely hard and dedicating themselves to both the academic and extracurricular offerings at Canton High School. I’m very proud of them and our staff. They are terrific students and great representatives our school community.
“The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” said a spokesperson for the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
