8th Grade Open House

CHS students experience an exceptional academic and extra-curricular experience at Canton High School. Most importantly, CHS students work hard and embrace the many opportunities at this school. Ask any graduate, the Canton High School preparation for college and careers is phenomenal.

This Wednesday, 8th graders and parents/guardians of 8th graders have an opportunity to learn about academic experience at CHS. The CHS 8th Grade Open House is on Wednesday, Dec. 3, from 6-8:30 p.m. in the CHS Auditorium.
An informational letter was sent a couple weeks ago and will be sent again this week. The opening hour involves presentations from the CHS administration, parents and students, and then parents and students will travel throughout the school for multiple presentations by department coordinators.

Congrats to the CHS Powder Puff Team!

Rain could not stop them. Sleet could not stop them. Snow could not stop them! The 2014 CHS Powder Puff team, a feisty bunch of seniors, weathered last week's storm and blasted the Stoughton team, 38-8. Congratulations seniors!

Kudos to CHS teachers (and Powder Puff coaches) Kelley Blake, Jess Duggan and Tina Hayes for designing a great game plan and making sure the team was well-prepared. A very intense group of coaches! Nice work!

The Powder Puff game is a great tradition in the community and a source of pride. Additionally, the game provides fundraising for Canton's and Stoughton's Student Councils. A big thank you to the CHS Student Council, Student Council Co-Advisors Jay Turner and David Hiltz, and Senior Advisor Heather Sullivan, and the Canton Maintenance Crew for coordinating a terrific event.

Rally! Rock on!

As Thanksgiving Day Rally MC Danny Erickson stated, "A rally shows your school spirit!" Well, it was awesome! Students entered the gymnasium to the song "Happy" and they never stopped rockin' the rally. It's always a proud moment to see the school as "One" during a rally or big event, showing school spirit and having a blast.

Mr. Erickson celebrated the outstanding fall athletic teams and the extra-curricular clubs, while the CHS Chorus and Mr. Whidden provided a moving rendition of the national anthem. Football Coach Dave Bohane expressed his appreciation for the support and announced Anthony Ross as the player to wear Ricky Shannon's "27" on Thanksgiving.

Plus tons of games and dances made for a fun finale to November. Thank you to the entire student body and staff! Go Bulldogs!

The annual Tug-of-War was won by the Sophomores!

My son/daughter is struggling...I need help!

Term 1 report cards were emailed home and we are in the early weeks of Term 2. Report Cards can either be affirmation for hard work or a sensitive topic of struggle. At CHS, we preach the need to "work hard" and "always strive to be better."

If your son or daughter is struggling with academics, here is some advice:

1. Have your son or daughter meet with the teacher and stay after for extra help.
2. Designate a time to compete homework and studying.
3. Utilize the Afterschool Academic Center as a structured area to complete work and get support.
4. Contact Kelly Blake at blakek@cantonma.org to arrange for peer tutoring through National Honor Society.
5. Contact the guidance department for further advice.

AFTERSCHOOL ACADEMIC CENTER

The Afterschool Academic Center in the library is now up and running. The library is open from 1:44 to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and there are two teachers available for tutoring in the library. It's a great opportunity for extra help. Here is the schedule.

Mondays           Mr. Dybdal (Math)
                         Ms. Busa (Spanish)

Tuesdays           Ms. Hayes (Special Education)
                        Ms. Rousseau (Science)

Wednesdays      Ms. Iacobucci (English)
                        Mr. Murphy (English)

Thursdays        Ms. Aspell (Math)
                         Mr. Pfeifer (Special Education/History)

If students want to access the library for technology or a structured environment, that's fine as well.
