CHS goes to Washington!

Canton Chapter of JSA serves proudly in Congress

On February 8sixteen Canton High School students and their chaperones, Mrs. Schutt and Mr. Comeau, braved the blizzard forecast and set out for Washington DC for the Junior States of America (JSA) Winter Congress.

At Winter Congress the JSA students were assigned to the House or Senate and participated in a mock Congress.  The CHS chapter submitted legislation that was accepted and debated at the convention by Representative Peter Koplik and Senator Katie Thomas.  All students had the opportunity to speak, amend, and vote on all proposed legislation.

The students participating in the Winter Congress were:  Gaby Sable, Sienna Felix, Nicole Conway, Dan Guan, Peter Koplik, Tim Conway, Kirsten Condon, Julie Newton, Katie Thomas, Mike Reese, Mike Noone, Mike Larsen, Saroj Schutt, Ariana Sanusi, Christina Guccione, and Christina Parrella. Every year at Winter Congress, candidate declarations are made for regional and state positions.

We are very excited that Peter Koplik will be running for Mayor of the New England Region of JSA.  In addition, Dan Guan was recently appointed as the Direction of Media for the Northeast State.

Model UN students debate at Boston University
Canton's Model UN represented itself very well at the Boston Invitational Model United Nations Conference, held at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel-Boston and sponsored by Boston University on Feb. 21-22. It was an enriching experience for all involved.

CHS students served as delegates and debated international issues with students from all over the Northeast.  Commendations go the Model UN students who needed to do a great deal of research to maintain a competitive edge in the debates.

Thank you so much to Model UN president Paige O'Riordan and her parents who made this trip possible. And kudos to Model UN advisor, Dean of Students and Social Studies teacher Mr. Goff who organized and supervised the trip. I am certain he inspired his group of delegates!
