CHS Students embark on annual Student Television Network (STN) Convention trip
Action!
These students, who routinely display their television expertise at CHS, will bring their talents to the West Coast for the 10th annual Student Television Network (STN) Convention -- a bonanza of creativity, collaboration, networking, studio visits and project challenges.
We can't wait to the see the films and videos they create. Talk about authentic learning!
They have arrived safely and are enjoying the many great experiences this event offers. Thank you to staff members Ed McDonough and Maureen Dickie for organizing the trip and chaperoning, and thank you to the parent volunteers as well.

CNN’S CARL AZUZ TO SPEAK AT
ANNUAL STUDENT TELEVISION NETWORK CONVENTION
CNN’s Student News Anchor to Present Keynote Address at Opening Ceremony
Carlsbad, CA: Student Television Network, an association of high school and middle school media programs, has announced that Carl Azuz (www.twitter.com/carlazuzcnn) will serve as the keynote speaker at the opening ceremony on Friday, March 8, 2013 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles.
Azuz is the anchor of CNN Student News, a daily news program designed to bring current events into middle and high school classrooms. Having served in roles ranging from package producer, reporter and writer for the program, Azuz has covered every topic from the war in Iraq to the world’s most expensive ice cream sundae. He has also interviewed students for CNN's "Fix Our Schools" series and explored the impact of technology on teenagers.
In addition to his anchoring duties, Azuz appears as a contributor on CNN Newsroom. His focus has been on in-depth explanations of a range of stories, including the U.S. debt limit, the costs of college, the history of the U.S. Postal Service, the factors that drive gold prices, and the Atlanta Public Schools cheating scandal.
Azuz spoke at an STN teacher luncheon in 2011 and provided an upbeat and well-received Super Session before the STN Closing Ceremony in 2012. His connection with students and teachers was recognized and applauded by the attendees. Follow up surveys indicated a strong interest in having him return in a higher capacity.
“Carl Azuz has touched STN with his humor and intelligent approach to the news,” said Nancy Held Loucas, STN Program Director. “The students already know him from the CNN Student News and the teachers are delighted with his real-world stories of reporting the news.”
This will be STN’s 10th annual convention, hosting 2,000 students and teachers from across the country. The four-day event includes more than 85 sessions on creative and technical topics and 27 contests for student teams. The goal of the convention is to network students and teachers with professionals who can share real life experience. Interested vendors and speakers can contact Student Television Network or email info@studenttelevision.com.
Student Television Network embraces the educational components of broadcast journalism, video production, filmmaking and media convergence by networking students and teachers with professionals in the industry.
